The lettuce sea slug or lettuce nudibranch is not a true nudibranch but closely resembles one. The lettuce slug feeds mainly on hair algae, both brown and green in shallow protected low flow areas. It is best suited for controlling microalgae in a refugium but can be used in a display tank if it is protected from high flow. It has been identified as both Tridachia crispata and Elysia crispata. The Lettuce Sea Slug will do well in established aquariums providing enough algae to feed on. Sizes vary from 1/4″ to 1/2″.
